  1. Johnson’s Chief of Staff Steve Barclay [went on Sky News](https://news.sky.com/story/boris-johnsons-chief-of-staff-brushes-off-partygate-as-reason-logical-cost-of-living-measures-are-on-way-12621597) to insist the timing of the unlikely Tory measures was unconnected to the PM’s darkening partygate horizon.

  2. Ha ha ha ha… it’s blatantly fucking obvious with the timing that it’s pure distraction.

Also if they get the chance they will happily and quietly drop the idea of this shortly if they can get away with it and they think the distraction has worked.

The fact that they even need to say “honest this isn’t a distraction” is proof enough that it is pure distraction

  3. Regarding the current administration, are we at the point yet where u-turns are no longer the exception but the norm?

    It certainly feels that way.

  4. Yep. Completely coincendental. Not remotely a cheeky bung to get us to stop talking about Johnson and his mates being a bunch of lying party-boy cockrots.

  5. Distraction? Think of it more like a bribe to voters, like Thatcher giving away the social/council houses for a fucking pittance in order to win votes.

  6. …and here I was, thinking that Partygate v2 was a distraction from Rishi’s burgeoning wealth, which was a distraction from the Rwanda deportations & the anti-protest laws being pushed through.

  7. In the words of stewart lee, this has been done with all the confidence of a dog running away from the smell of its own fart.

  8. It was completely off the table only a week ago. They can claim it took them a long time to discuss how to proceed with it but why did they not say that they were thinking about it? What would the oil giants have done if they knew one was coming with a week’s notice? The Tories u-turned and any idiot would be able to see that.
