The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Austria has deported a 30-year-old
Afghan man to Kabul via Istanbul, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said.
Karner said the man’s asylum application had been rejected
in 2022, but he continued to live in Austria illegally. He was recently
arrested at his workplace, where he had been employed without legal
authorization.
The deportation, carried out on Monday, March 30, marks the
sixth direct removal of an Afghan national since the autumn of 2025.
“Convicted criminals and individuals without legal residence
permits will be deported, including to Syria and Afghanistan,” Karner said.
He added that a recently approved asylum framework by the
Austrian Council of Ministers provides the legal basis for continuing
deportations.
Meanwhile, human rights organizations have warned that
Afghanistan’s security situation could endanger the safety and well-being of
returnees.
