An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a Pickens County resident in Uniontown early Sunday morning. 33-year-old Deandre Brandell Langhorne was taken into custody by Special Agents from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agencies State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) yesterday according to a release by the agency.

The resident of Uniontown in Perry County has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the 1:00am shooting death of 26-year-old Erika Latvia Latham in the 200 block of Water Avenue in Uniontown. She was ruled dead at the scene of the incident. Lathan was a resident of Reform, in western Pickens County.

Shortly after responding to the scene of the shooting Sunday, the Uniontown Police Department requested that investigation of the case be transferred to the SBI investigators.

In Alabama, manslaughter is classified as a Class B Felony. It is defined as a homicide where the defendant acted recklessly, or in the heat of passion due to legal provocation, without prior intent to kill. It can carry a penalty of two to 20 years in state prison with potential fines up to $30,000. If a firearm is involved in the incident, the imprisonment term cannot be less that 10 years.
