On Wednesday, April 1, the State Police received a report from a resident that debris from an unmanned aerial vehicle had possibly been found in Silmala Parish, Rēzekne Municipality. The police state that they confirmed the information at the scene. There is no danger to the public; the debris is not explosive, the police stated.

Currently, the State Police are working at the scene together with the National Armed Forces and the Rēzekne District Municipal Police. The area has been cordoned off.

The police have indicated that the drone debris is not explosive, and there is currently no danger to the public.

The National Armed Forces (NBS) also state on their social media that NBS  sappers have inspected the scene and determined that the debris found is not explosive, and therefore there is no threat to the public. The NBS continues to monitor the situation.

The State Police has initiated criminal proceedings under Chapter 10 of the Criminal Law – Crimes Against the State. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.

Law enforcement officials remind the public that in situations where a suspicious drone or its debris is spotted, you must immediately call 112, specifying the location, time, and any other known information. Under no circumstances should you approach the drone or its debris.

The police also urge the public not to spread unverified information, but to hand over any available photos or video footage to the police.
