Anthony Leonardi outlines the projects that the Village of Lisbon is hoping to fund, but discuss where that funding is going to come from.
Several new projects are coming to Lisbon this year, but there are questions about how they will be financed.
The Lisbon Village finance committee decided that the Sadie Van Fossen swimming pool is among their top priorities, as it will undergo renovations to its structure and filtration system, but will remain closed throughout 2026.
“Parts of that pool are 70 years old, and the filtration system just gave out,” said Peter Wilson, the mayor of Lisbon. “People come from outside of the community, so the pool is widely used and it gets busy. It’s a major draw for people wanting to visit Lisbon.”
Wilson said the Columbiana County commissioners offered them $50,000, but the total cost of the project is $150,000.
“We would prefer to get a grant to cover the entire cost,” Wilson explained. “For a village our size a $150,000 investment is huge, and although it’s widely supported by the community, we do have to watch our funds.”
Along with the grants for the pool, Wilson said the village council is also in the process of applying for a number of other grants to help them fund other projects, which includes installing two catch basins and replacing another, in areas where storm runoff is an issue, and repaving several roads.
Wilson said future discussions in the village council about these projects will determine how they are funded, but he is confident that the road and catch basin projects will be completed this year.
The committee also mentioned repairs to the community pickleball courts, but those changes are likely to come in 2027.
