Moldova's EcoImpact Program: TVET Schools Lead Green Skills & Sustainability - News and Statistics

According to ILO News, a national grants program called EcoImpact is enabling technical and vocational education institutions across Moldova to implement practical sustainability projects. The initiative, which began in the spring of 2025, forms part of a broader skills project funded by the Austrian Development Agency and the Liechtenstein Development Service.

Nearly 60 percent of the country’s TVET network, comprising 48 institutions, has participated in testing and scaling green solutions on their campuses. Following an evaluation phase, 11 projects received backing to design and implement environmentally sustainable initiatives. These projects integrate training programs, introduce green infrastructure, and foster partnerships with local authorities and community organizations.

Specific outcomes from the initiative include energy efficiency audits and smart lighting management at one school in Balti, while another in the same city established an EcoHub for workshops on recycling and renewable energy. Other projects feature composting platforms in several towns, a rainwater harvesting system that reduced drinking water use at a fourth Balti school, a student-run eco-enterprise, new waste-sorting stations, and an added curriculum module on the circular economy.

The program has directly and indirectly engaged over 8,000 students, teachers, and community members across six regions, aiming to strengthen practical green skills. A recent event in Chisinau, the EcoImpact Gala, gathered government ministries, development partners, and stakeholders to recognize these achievements and discuss scaling the practices nationwide. Project organizers indicate that based on the current momentum, support for expanding these initiatives will continue.
