Cross-country skiing : an eventful end to winter for Gabriel Gledhill
Threatened with expulsion from Norway after his residence permit was refused, British foundryman Gabriel Gledhill can finally stay in Norway. The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration has reversed its decision following an appeal by the Briton, who has lived in Lillehammer (Norway) for five years.
The 23-year-old cross-country skier has had a particularly eventful winter. Already under fire during the 50km race in Oslo-Holmenkollen (Norway), where his behaviour on the sidelines of the race – linked in particular to his consumption of alcohol – had caused controversy, he then thought he would have to leave the country for good after his application was rejected in February.

“The last few weeks have been particularly stressful”, he told NRK, as he cleared out his flat and prepared to leave. But Gabriel Gledhill didn’t give up: he sent over 100 documents to prove that he was rooted in Norway. A strategy that paid off in the end. “It’s a dream message. It’s changing my life”, he said after the decision.
Now, the Briton, who has lived in Norway since 2020, can look forward to continuing his career and studying in Oslo (Norway).
