The lawyer for a 32-year-old man injured this week when his van was struck by a federal immigration agent’s vehicle was again denied access to him, his attorney said.
Immigration attorney Adam Crandell told The Banner on Saturday an attempt to access his client Ever Alvarenga Rios at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center was denied.
Crandell has represented Alvarenga Rios for the past eight years ever since the man has been seeking citizenship.
Crandell believes Alvarenga Rios’ van was rear-ended by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent’s vehicle Thursday morning in Annapolis while he was on his way to work where he installs flooring.
Crandell said his client sustained “significant injuries.”
Crandell’s team was initially denied multiple meeting attempts with Alvarenga Rios on Thursday. They were again denied meeting with him Friday, Crandell said.
Alvarenga Rios’ wife, Lurbin Vasquez, said when she spoke to her husband Thursday, he told her he had a concussion, his arm was in a cast and he was in pain. She has not spoken to him since.
This is the second crash involving federal immigration agents in Annapolis this week. On Wednesday morning, ICE agents were involved in a crash in Annapolis, according to the city’s police department. No one was injured.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen was outraged by the news of Alvarenga Rios.
In addition, to including a picture of an injured Alvarenga Rios, and a synopsis of events that led to his injuries, Van Hollen wrote on X: “ICE tactics are endangering our communities & violating the Constitution.”
