In order for Belavia aircraft to be able to fly to the USA, an intergovernmental agreement with this country is necessary. This was told by the general director of the Belarusian national airline Igor Cherginets.
“In order to start flights between Belarus and the United States, it is necessary to sign an intergovernmental agreement on air services. He’s not here right now. When it is signed, then there will be legal opportunities to start working in this direction,” he said.
According to Cherginets, in 2019, “before all sanctions were imposed,” the airline and its partners from Boeing considered the possibility of acquiring long-haul vessels for flights, including to the United States. At the same time, he noted that “it was not only New York.”
It should be recalled that in September 2025 it became known that the United States was lifting sanctions against Belavia Airlines. The American Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Department of Commerce explained that on September 12 this year, some aircraft of the Belarusian national air carrier were allowed to perform international flights and undergo maintenance. But they can not fly to some countries, including Russia. Moreover, Belavia is still under EU sanctions.
