The Defence Ministry said it will match the 75,500 euro funding provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so that in all, more than 150,000 euros of public money will be spent on the two-day event that will take place in Rīga on September 10 and 11 of this year, organized by the Latvian Transatlantic Organization (LATO) and the above-mentioned ministries.
The Defence Ministry said the expenditure – which will count as part of the planned 4.9% of GDP defence spending this year – will “strengthen Latvia’s role in global security discussions and promote transatlantic cooperation”.
“This conference is an important instrument for expressing Latvia’s foreign policy and defence interests. It not only strengthens our country’s authority in the international arena, but also serves as a practical platform for seeking solutions to the challenges posed by the current global instability, together with our allies,” claimed Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds.
This year’s conference will, as always, focus on international and regional security and foreign affairs issues. The conference will also feature a Business Forum.
Since 2006, the Riga Conference has established itself as an annual event bringing together policymakers, military experts, diplomats, academics, media, and various other people.
