It’s a La Liga showdown at Camp Nou on Wednesday as Barcelona and Atlético Madrid begin their Champions League quarterfinal.

The two sides have met four times this season, twice in league play and twice in the Copa del Rey. It’s only been four days since the last time they saw one another, which ended with a 2-1 Barcelona victory.

Barcelona holds a dominant record over Atleti at the Camp Nou. The last time the Rojiblancos won away from home against their La Liga rivals was Feb. 5, 2006. Since then, it’s been 18 wins and seven draws for Barça.

Barcelona will be missing key players such as Raphinha, Marc Bernal and Frenkie de Jong due to injury. Lamine Yamal, meanwhile, is a yellow card away from being suspended for next week’s second leg.

In Wednesday’s other quarterfinal, PSG will host Liverpool one year after the sides met in the Round of 16, which saw the Parisians advance after penalty kicks en route to the title.

Liverpool have had a subpar season domestically as they are in a fight to remain in the Champions League next season. They enter the first leg against PSG off the back of a 4-0 drubbing in the FA Cup quarterfinals against Manchester City and a 2-1 Premier League loss to Brighton. The pressure has been increasing on manager Arne Slot and a summer of change — beginning with the departure of Mohamed Salah — is on tap.

PSG, meanwhile, are four points ahead of Lens in Ligue 1 with a game in hand and have only lost once since Feb. 13 in all competitions. They arrived here after dispatching Chelsea 8-2 over two legs in the Round of 16.

Griezmann announced in March that he will leave X after the World Cup to join MLS side Orlando City on a two-year deal through the 2027-28 season — with a club option for 2028-29.

The 34-year-old Griezmann, who is a two-time Ballon d’Or finalist and World Cup winner, has spent his entire club career in Spain, beginning with Real Sociedad in 2009 before moving on for his first stint with Atléti in 2014. After 180 appearances with Rojiblancos, Griezmann joined Barcelona for parts of three seasons before returning to Atlético Madrid in 2022.
