Prices drop at gas stations in Austria

Fuel prices are falling! After a ceasefire in the Middle East, gasoline and diesel will become cheaper in Austria. However, experts continue to see uncertainty.
Gasoline and diesel prices are moving again. The trigger is the announcement of the latest ceasefire in the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran. The situation had previously caused great uncertainty in the markets – with correspondingly high fuel prices.
Now the oil market is reacting immediately: the price of crude oil is falling, and this is also coming to gas stations in Austria.
A comparison of price developments at a gas station north of Vienna by the Kronen Zeitung now shows that fuel is getting cheaper again. Super gasoline was 8 cents cheaper per liter on Thursday, while diesel was 3 cents cheaper.
A government regulation requires gas stations to immediately pass on reduced purchase prices to customers. However, there is a noticeable delay. Although crude oil prices had already fallen on Wednesday, the adjustment at the gas station did not occur until Thursday at noon.
Reason: Future fuel prices will be calculated the night before, between 7 a.m. and midnight. If the price drops later in the night, this will only be taken into account the next day.
“Yesterday’s stock market price drop is already coming to the pumps today. In six of the nine federal states, for example, petrol prices at the cheapest petrol stations have now fallen below 2 euros,” comments Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer on the development. At the same time, his department, in cooperation with E-Control, will closely monitor that any reductions in the global market are also passed on to domestic drivers, albinfo.at reports.
Situation still uncertain
But this is not yet a real relaxation. Experts warn that the situation in the Middle East remains fragile. If the conflict flares up again, fuel prices could also rise quickly again.
