Saginaw, Mich. (WNEM) – Jocelyn Benson held a press conference rolling out her energy affordability agenda.
The secretary of state and gubernatorial candidate visited Saginaw to push for energy affordability as concerns about high electricity bills rise. Michigan residents pay some of the highest heat and electricity bills in the nation, according to Benson.
“What I know or you may in particular are seeing is a real pain point here in Saginaw, and frankly all across our state that our electricity bills are just too high,” Benson said.
Benson said that she plans to end the unfair rate hikes, create well-paying union jobs, reform the rate-setting process and invest in a clean energy future for Michigan. This is the third plank of Benson’s affordability agenda, which highlights her laser focus on lowering costs for people in Michigan.
Benson is running against Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, Kevin Hogan, Marni Sawicki and Kim Thomas for the Democratic nomination for governor. The Democratic primary for governor is Aug. 4.
