349 runners turned up for the first edition of Ultra Malta Trail at Majjistral Park. The trail had three distances, 6km, 21km and 54km.

The winner of the 54km distance was Jemima Farley, local running legend who finished a whole 15 minutes before the men’s winner, Isaac Attard.

Ultra Malta Trail (UMT) took place on Easter Sunday, with a route following through the northern trails of Majjistral Park and coastlines through Mellieħa, Selmun, Mistra and the Miżieb woodland.

In the 21km distance, Clayton Abella emerged as the overall winner, and Michaela Kucharikova winning in the female category.

“Our goal was to bring the ultra-distance race to Malta. Malta has great potential, and even though trail running is still a niche compared to road racing, the Maltese athletes are hungry for a challenge,” said UMT race director, Marko Bezzina.

Bezzina said that Majjistral Park was the perfect place to showcase Malta’s beauty whilst having everything a trail runner can ask for.

Around 25% of participants, approximately 88 participants, were international atheletes who came to Malta for this race.

UMT is already working on next year’s edition after this year’s great turnout. The Ultra Malta Trail is proudly powered by Columbia Sportswear and supported by Visit Malta.
