National Canadian Film Day will be celebrated in Surrey with a free screening of The Queen of My Dreams, Fawzia Mirza’s acclaimed feature film.

Tickets can be reserved on eventbrite.com for Wednesday, April 15 at Landmark Cinemas in Guildford, 7 p.m. start.

The event is a partnership of Surrey-based International South Asian Film Festival (iSAFF) and Reel Canada’s National Canadian Film Day, an annual nationwide showcase of homegrown cinema.

The Queen of My Dreams is a Bollywood-inspired dramedy that follows Azra, a queer Pakistani-Canadian woman who travels to Karachi after her father’s sudden death, triggering a journey through memory and identity spanning 1969 Karachi and 1989 Nova Scotia.

Starring Amrit Kaur, Nimra Bucha and Hamza Haq, the film earned five Canadian Screen Award nominations and was named one of Canada’s Top 10 films by TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival).

“Partnering with National Canadian Film Day is a natural extension of everything iSAFF stands for,” says Mannu Sandhu, festival producer.

“The Queen of My Dreams is exactly the kind of story we exist to celebrate — bold, cross-cultural and deeply human. We’re thrilled to bring this film to audiences for free, and to be part of a movement that puts Canadian storytelling front and centre.”

Launched in 2008, iSAFF is planned Sept. 23-27, 2026. Submissions are welcomed on filmfreeway.com/InternationalSouthAsianFilmFestival.
