Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has departed for the US to attend the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings 2026 in Washington. His visit also includes meetings with IMF, World Bank, US officials, investors and partner countries.
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb has left for the United States to take part in the World Bank Group-IMF Spring Meetings 2026, which are due to be held in Washington DC from April 13 to 18, according to a statement issued by the finance ministry on Saturday.
The ministry said that before attending the meetings in Washington, Aurangzeb will travel to Boston for the Pakistan Conference at Harvard University. During that visit, he is expected to interact with academics, policymakers and members of the Pakistani diaspora, and present Pakistan’s economic outlook, reform path and growth prospects.
According to the statement, the finance minister will represent Pakistan at key events organised by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. His visit will also include a series of multilateral and bilateral meetings with international financial leaders, development partners and policymakers.
Meetings with IFIs and IMF leadership
On the margins of the spring meetings, Aurangzeb is scheduled to hold talks with senior officials of international financial institutions. These include World Bank Group Managing Director (Operations) Anna Bjerde, International Finance Corporation Managing Director Makhtar Diop and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency Managing Director Tsutomu Yamamoto.
The finance ministry said he will also meet senior IMF officials, including First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz, Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke and Jihad Azour, director of the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department. The discussions are expected to cover Pakistan’s macroeconomic outlook, progress on reforms and future cooperation.
Engagements with US officials and investors
As part of his engagements with the US administration, Aurangzeb is also set to meet senior officials from the State Department and the Department of Treasury, as well as Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The ministry said these meetings will focus on strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and discussing support for Pakistan’s reform agenda.
In addition, the finance minister will meet senior representatives of global financial institutions and corporations. The statement named leadership from major investment institutions and banks, including Franklin Templeton, Rothschild & Co, Citibank and JP Morgan Chase, along with representatives of leading technology and policy platforms.
Talks with partner countries and development stakeholders
The ministry said Aurangzeb is also scheduled to meet his counterparts and financial leaders from partner countries, including China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkiye and the United Kingdom, with the aim of reinforcing bilateral economic cooperation.
His programme also includes engagements with multilateral and development finance stakeholders. These include the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the Gates Foundation, and senior representatives of institutions such as the Asian Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
According to the finance ministry, the visit is centred on Pakistan’s participation in the World Bank Group-IMF Spring Meetings and a broader set of discussions on the country’s economic outlook, reform progress and cooperation with international financial and development partners.
