Global warming has reached the +1.5C Paris target and a catastrophic +2.0C is estimated by 2045, with numerous dire impacts predicted for warming in this range including reaching 11 disastrous and irreversible tipping points. However key global warming factors are at a maximum, and still increasing, not decreasing. Humanity ignores the looming Climate Genocide just as it fails to stop the US-Israeli-imposed Iranian Genocide that threatens nuclear contamination, dirty bombs and a Nuclear Holocaust.

One of the world’s greatest minds, Stephen Hawking, issued the following dire warning in 2018: “We see great peril if governments and societies do not take action now to render nuclear weapons obsolete and to prevent further climate change” [1]. Professor Hawking’s 2018 “now” is presently a 2026 “now” characterized by continuing extremely dangerous global inaction over nuclear weapons and climate change.

Summarized below is a 2026 update on the worsening and existential (A) Nuclear Holocaust and (B) Climate Genocide threats to Humanity.

(A). Worsening existential Nuclear Holocaust threat from US-Israeli-imposed Iranian Genocide.

Humanity and the Biosphere are existentially threatened by nuclear weapons. Thus global dust from a major nuclear exchange would block global photosynthesis and create a deadly nuclear winter that would decimate Humanity and the Biosphere [2]. Presently only 9 countries have nuclear weapons, namely Russia (5,459), US (5,277), China  (600), France (290), UK (225), India (180), Pakistan (170), Apartheid Israel (90)  and North Korea (50) [3].

The illegal, UN Charter-violating, devastating and war criminal US-Israeli bombing of Iran in 2025 and 2026 was supposedly done to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. However Iran (population 94 million) does not have nuclear weapons,  has signed and ratified the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and wants a nuclear weapons-free Middle East. Iran has not yet signed the TPNW (Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons), presumably because this might compromise purchase of conventional military support from nuclear powers China and Russia (the TPNW prohibits a ratifying country from supporting “in any way” the creation, deployment and use of nuclear weapons) [4, 5].

In stark contrast the US-backed, 7 million ruling Zionists of Apartheid Israel (less than 0.1% of the global population) have 90 nuclear weapons plus delivery systems, and reject the NPT and TPNW [2, 5].

In stark contrast, Zionist-perverted America has 5,277 nuclear weapons, rejects the NPT and TPNW, has used nuclear weapons on cities (Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945), and has threatened to destroy all Iranian electricity plants, this threatening widespread release of radioactivity from the Bushehr-1 nuclear power station and catastrophic Chernobyl- or Fukushima-like meltdown if the electricity supply for cooling is cut.

On a personal note, I worked with radionuclides for 40 years, and taught final year university science students about radiation safety for 30 years. The fundamental rules were a direct relationship between radiation dosage and effect, strict containment of radioactivity and prevention of  ingestion and exposure to radioactivity. Only anti-science idiots such as those of the Zionist-perverted Trump Administration would do otherwise. Explosive spreading of radioactivity across another country is dangerous and malignant idiocy.

The illegal US-Israeli bombing of Iran in 2005 and now even more catastrophically in 2026 has moved the world towards economic disaster due to constraints on oil, gas and urea fertilizer supply. However it has also moved the world closer to the precipice of nuclear war.  Thus the reckless US-Israeli bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities in 2025 was conducted in the knowledge that  radioactive material might  not be contained and might  contaminate the local environment. The renewed US-Israeli bombing of Iran  also threatens Iran’s only nuclear power station (Bushehr-1).

Of critical concern is unhinged President Donald Trump’s threat that  “They’re going to lose every power plant and every other plant they have in the whole country” [6]. Al Jazeera: “Another major concentration of power plants lies along the Gulf coast. These plants sit close to major gasfields and ports, allowing large thermal stations to run on abundant natural gas. The coast is also home to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Iran’s only nuclear power facility, which has a capacity of 1,000MW. The US and Israel have repeatedly hit [near] this nuclear power plant, raising risks of radioactive contamination far beyond Iran’s borders, the state-run Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran (AEOI) has warned” [6].

The American Nuclear Society (ANS) issued the following statement: “The American Nuclear Society supports the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) calls for maximum military restraint around nuclear power plants and civilian research reactors, and for full adherence by all combatants to the IAEA’s seven pillars for nuclear safety and security during armed conflict” [7] . Bombing the external electricity supply to a nuclear power plant could cause a disastrous nuclear meltdown as at Chernobyl and Fukushima.

The IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Director General Rafael Grossi has warned: “Continued military activity near the BNPP [Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant], an operating plant with large amounts of nuclear fuel, could cause a severe radiological accident with harmful consequences for people and the environment in Iran and beyond… regardless of the nature of the intended targets, such attacks pose a very real danger to nuclear safety and must stop” [7].

MSN.com: “Russia’s nuclear agency Rosatom, which operates the plant and has hundreds of personnel stationed there, began evacuating staff following the strikes. The Week Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev said the likelihood of a nuclear incident was “unfortunately, only increasing”. Experts warn that a direct hit on the plant or its electricity supply lines, which power the reactor’s cooling system, could trigger a meltdown and force evacuations across several hundred kilometres, potentially extending to neighbouring Gulf countries” [8].

Melbourne-founded, Australian-led and Nobel Prize-awarded ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons): “On 21 March 2026, Israel and the US bombed Iran’s Nantaz nuclear installation used for enrichment of uranium. In retaliation, Iran attacked the towns of Arad and Dimona with ballistic missiles – the latter is also the home of Israel’s Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Centre. It’s the first time Iranian missiles have penetrated Israeli air defences in an area around a key nuclear facility. Israeli officials said there was no damage to the facility and no abnormal radiation levels reported… The US-Israeli decision to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities again following their bombing of 3 Iranian nuclear sites, including Nantaz, nine months ago, is a dangerous escalation of their illegal war of aggression by increasing the nuclear risks arising from the war. In recent days, international reports also described a strike near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, prompting renewed concern about the potential for accidents or radiological releases in a region already facing escalating conflict. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly stressed that armed attacks on nuclear facilities should never take place, warning they “could result in radioactive releases with grave consequences within and beyond the boundaries of the State” attacked” [9].

ICAN Executive Director  Melissa Parke: “Striking nuclear installations is explicitly banned under international law and risks causing radioactive contamination harmful to human health and the environment” [9].

US or Israeli bombing of Iran resulting in widespread release of radioactive material and population displacement could result in like retaliation and the nightmare of a “dirty bomb” war involving widespread radioactive contamination []. Indeed while Iran is evidently unwilling or unable to make high explosive  nuclear bombs it is certainly capable of making “dirty bombs” as a deterrent to genocidal US-Israeli bombing [10]. The pre-1967 area of Apartheid Israel was about 20,000 km2 of which about half was desert. Thus the relatively densely populated area of Apartheid Israel is about 10,000 km2, about the same area as greater Melbourne in Australia and half the area of Iran’s mostly densely  populated province of Tehran (19,000 km2). Iran has an area of 1,648,000 km2,  80 times greater than that of pre-1967 Apartheid Israel.  Apartheid Israel is thus at a strategic disadvantage in relation to “dirty bomb” warfare and anti-missile systems would merely scatter radionuclides across defended population centres.

A major problem with nuclear power generation and nuclear weapons manufacture is extremely long-half-life nuclear waste. Thus the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission: “High-level radioactive waste primarily is uranium fuel that has been used in a nuclear power reactor and is “spent,” or no longer efficient in producing electricity. Spent fuel is thermally hot as well as highly radioactive and requires remote handling and shielding. Nuclear reactor fuel contains ceramic pellets of uranium 235 inside of metal rods. Before these fuel rods are used, they are only slightly radioactive and may be handled without special shielding. During the fission process, two things happen to the uranium in the fuel. First, uranium atoms split, creating energy that is used to produce electricity. The fission creates radioactive isotopes of lighter elements such as cesium-137 and strontium-90. These isotopes, called “fission products,” account for most of the heat and penetrating radiation in high-level waste. Second, some uranium atoms capture neutrons produced during fission. These atoms form heavier elements such as plutonium. These heavier-than-uranium, or “transuranic,” elements do not produce nearly the amount of heat or penetrating radiation that fission products do, but they take much longer to decay. Transuranic wastes, sometimes called TRU, account for most of the radioactive hazard remaining in high-level waste after 1,000 years. Radioactive isotopes eventually decay, or disintegrate, to harmless materials. Some isotopes decay in hours or even minutes, but others decay very slowly. Strontium-90 and cesium-137 have half-lives of about 30 years (half the radioactivity will decay in 30 years). Plutonium-239 has a half-life of 24,000 years” [11] . High-level wastes are hazardous because they produce fatal radiation doses during short periods of direct exposure. For example, 10 years after removal from a reactor, the surface dose rate for a typical spent fuel assembly exceeds 10,000 rem/hour – far greater than the fatal whole-body dose for humans of about 500 rem [500,000 millirem] received all at once”[12]. Note that 1 rem (roentgen equivalent man) = 10 mSv (millisievert). The US  occupational safety limit is 5,000 millirems per year and the natural annual dosage is 300 millirems per year at sea level [12].

It must be noted that the US,  UK, France, US Alliance, Apartheid Israel, all nuclear power states and all nuclear weapons states  have a dirty record of environmental radioactive pollution as exampled by Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Chernobyl, Fukushima, scattered  radioactive Depleted Uranium in war, and long-lived radioactive waste from nuclear power generation and nuclear weapons manufacture.

Apartheid Israel is endlessly mendacious [13, 14] and involved in “dirty tricks” most notably in relation to its likely involvement in the 9/11 atrocity (3,000 Americans killed and thence over 30 million Muslims killed [15, 16]) and the 7 October 2023 commencement of the Gaza Genocide (enabled by Apartheid Israel, 1,200 Israeli deaths mostly from IDF fire, mostly adults and hence past or present IDF members and with Gazan deaths “from violence and deprivation” (Google this phrase)  totalling 875,000 in 2 years [17-25]). It is accordingly quite plausible to suggest that Apartheid Israel  might claim a “dirty bomb” incident to permit it to execute Trump’s genocidal threat to Iran that “a whole civilisation will die tonight”[26].

The key ethos of decent Humanity is Kindness and Truth but this is grossly violated by genocidally racist, egregiously mendacious and remorselessly thieving Apartheid Israel [21]. War is the penultimate in racism and genocide the ultimate. Article II of the UN Genocide Convention defines genocide thus:  “In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group” [27]. Article III : “The following acts shall be punishable: (a) Genocide; (b) Conspiracy to commit genocide; (c) Direct and public incitement to commit genocide; (d) Attempt to commit genocide; (e) Complicity in genocide” [27]. Article V: “Contracting Parties to undertake to enact, in accordance with their respective Constitutions, the necessary legislation to give effect to the provisions of the present Convention, and, in particular, to provide effective penalties for persons guilty of genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in article III” [27].

These Genocide Conventions Articles are grossly violated by the US and US-backed Apartheid Israel in the Gaza Genocide (2023 onwards; 875,000 Gaza deaths from violence and deprivation in 2 years, all of initially 2.4 million Gazans displaced and homeless), the 2026 onwards Lebanon Genocide (2,000 killed, over 6,000 wounded, 1 million refugees homeless, 10% of Lebanon occupied, Beirut bombed daily), and the 1979 onwards and 2026 exacerbated Iran Genocide (3 million dead from sanctions-imposed deprivation since 1979, 1 million Iranian dead in the US-backed Iran-Iraq war, and presently Iran threatened by Trump’s “a whole civilisation will die tonight”[26, 28, 29].

Genocidal Apartheid Israel and Zionist-perverted America have now put the whole world on a Nuclear Holocaust and terracide precipice.

(B). Existential Climate Genocide threats to Humanity are relentlessly worsening.

(a). Hansen et al. (2025): A +1.5C of warming has already been achieved and  +2C may be reached by 2045 with dire consequences.  Recall Stephen Hawking’s dire 2018 warning: “We see great peril if governments and societies do not take action now to render nuclear weapons obsolete and to prevent further climate change” [1].  Leading climate scientist James Hansen and colleagues (December 2025): “Global temperature in 2025 declined 0.1°C from its El Nino-spurred maximum in 2024, making 2025 the second warmest year. The 2023-2025 mean is +1.5°C relative to 1880-1920. The 12-month running-mean temperature should decline for the next few months, reaching a minimum about +1.4°C. Later in 2026, we expect the 12-month running-mean temperature to begin to rise, as dynamical models show development of an El Nino. We project a global temperature record of +1.7°C in 2027, which will provide further confirmation of the recent global warming acceleration” [30]. On the basis of a 0.31°C per decade temperature rise a catastrophic +2°C could occur by 2045 (Figure 5 [30]).

(b). Hansen et al. (2023): Plus 2°C before 2050.  James Hansen and his colleagues have re-examined global warming taking into account the decline in global cooling aerosol emissions from shipping  and have advocated global cooling measures (2023): “Equilibrium global warming for today’s GHG [greenhouse gas] amount is 10°C, which is reduced to 8°C by today’s human-made aerosols. Equilibrium warming is not ‘committed’ warming; rapid phaseout of GHG emissions would prevent most equilibrium warming from occurring. However, decline of aerosol emissions since 2010 should increase the 1970–2010 global warming rate of 0.18°C per decade to a post-2010 rate of at least 0.27°C per decade. Thus, under the present geopolitical approach to GHG emissions, global warming will exceed 1.5°C in the 2020s and 2°C before 2050. Impacts on people and nature will accelerate as global warming increases hydrologic (weather) extremes. The enormity of consequences demands a return to Holocene-level global temperature. Required actions include: (1) a global increasing price on GHG emissions accompanied by development of abundant, affordable, dispatchable clean energy, (2) East-West cooperation in a way that accommodates developing world needs, and (3) intervention with Earth’s radiation imbalance to phase down today’s massive human-made ‘geo-transformation’ of Earth’s climate. Current political crises present an opportunity for reset, especially if young people can grasp their situation.” [31].

(c). UNEP (UN Environment Program): Catastrophic plus 2.0C unavoidable? Recalling that the Paris Climate Change Conference proposed an ideal  +1.5C (+1.5°C) warming limit, the UN Environment Program (UNEP) asked (November 2025): “Is there any chance of keeping warming below 1.5°C? Technically, yes, but the odds of that happening are slim. The Emissions Gap Report found that greenhouse gas emissions would have to fall roughly by 55 per cent by 2035 to align with the 1.5°C pathway well above what countries have promised.  A more achievable, though still difficult, goal is limiting warming to 2°C, which would require emissions to drop around 35 per cent by 2035. Current national commitments, if fully implemented, would cut emissions only 12 to 15 per cent by that date — leaving the world well off target” [32].

(d). Plus +1.5C and  +2.0C impacts. The Australian Climate Council has estimated the following impacts  of a +1.5C and of a +2.0C of warming [33]:

(i). Extreme heat &  % global population exposed to extreme heat 1 in 5 years: 14% (+1.5C),  37% (+2C, 2.6X worse).

(ii). Sea-ice-free Arctic & number of ice-free summers: at least 1  every 100 years (+1.5C), at least 1 every 10 years (+2C, 10X worse).

(iii).  Sea level rise & amount of sea level rise by 2100:  0.40 metres (+1.5C), 0.46 metres (+2C, 0.06 metres more).

(iv). Vertebrate species loss & vertebrates that lose at least half of their range: 4% (+1.5C), 8% (+2C, 2X worse).

(v). Plant species loss & plants that lose at least half of their range: 8% (+1.5C), 16% (+2C, 2X worse).

(vi). Insect  species loss & insects that lose at least half of their range: 6% (+1.5C), 18% (+2C, (3X worse).

(vii). Ecosystems & amount of Earth’s land area where ecosystems will move to a new biome: 7% (+1.5C), 13% (+2C, (1.86X worse).

(viii). Permafrost & amount of Arctic permafrost that will thaw: 4.8 million km2 (+1.5C), 6.6 million km2 (+2C, 38% worse).

(ix). Crop yields & reduction in maize harvested in tropics: 3% (+1.5C), 7% (+2C, up to 29% worse worse).

(x). Coral reefs & further decline in coral reefs: 70-90% (+1.5C), 99% (+2C, up to 29% worse and almost total loss).

(xi). Fisheries & decline in marine fisheries: 1.5 million tonnes decline (+1.5C), 3 million tonnes decline  (+2C, 3X worse).

Not detailed here are actual species extinctions and  amplifying positive feedback effects such as (a) sea ice loss -> more light absorption by low albedo sea -> more warming -> more sea ice loss, (b) permafrost melting -> methane release -> more warming -> more permafrost melting, (c) ecosystem and insect species loss -> decreased pollination -> increased ecosystem and species loss, and (d) increased evaporation from increased liquid water temperature ->   increased atmospheric water ->   increased precipitation -> increased evaporation.

(e). Climate change tipping points are critical points at which global warming causes irreversible change to key Earth systems. Paul Ritchie et al. have listed 11 key tipping elements along with their minimum global warming tipping points in the warming range of +0.8C to +2C, namely (A) Cryosphere tipping elements:  Greenland ice sheet (+0.8C), West Antarctic ice-sheet (+1.0C), Marine Basins East Antarctica (+2.0C), Mountain glaciers (+1.5C),  Land permafrost (+1.0C), (B) Ecological tipping points: Amazon rainforest (+2.0C), Boreal forest (+1.4C), Warm-water coral reefs (+1.0C), and (C) West African monsoon (+2.0C), North Atlantic subpolar gyre (+1.1C) and Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) (+1.4C) [34].

Paul Ritchie et  al.: “Due to insufficient emission reductions in recent years, it is increasingly likely that global warming will exceed the 1.5 °C temperature limit in the late 2020s or 2030s. As a result, several Earth system tipping elements could, at least temporarily, have their tipping points surpassed, posing risks of large-scale and profound structural change. Tipping does not always occur immediately upon crossing such a critical threshold. If the length of time the driver is beyond the critical level is short enough, tipping could still be avoided for some slow-responding elements of the climate system. An improved understanding is therefore needed of whether tipping remains avoidable, for which systems, and under what conditions. Here, we review how minimising the magnitude and duration of any temperature overshoot beyond 1.5 °C could decrease tipping risks. Tipping elements with fast response times, such as warm-water coral reefs, are especially vulnerable to overshoot. In contrast, those with slow response times, such as polar ice sheets, may be less sensitive to temporary overshoot. Potential interactions between tipping elements and additional human pressures, such as deforestation in the Amazon or pollution and overfishing of coral reef habitats, may further lower tipping points, narrowing the range of overshoot trajectories that can still avoid it. The vulnerability of many tipping elements, even under shorter overshoot conditions, underscores that global warming must peak below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels, return to below 1.5 °C as quickly as possible (i.e. within this century), and to around 1 °C thereafter to limit tipping point risks” [34].

(f). Deadly inaction continues. Thus of 35 climate change-related parameters measured since about 1980 about 28 are going in the wrong direction and mostly in a clear quasi-linear fashion (atmospheric CO2, CH4, and N2O, surface temperature, global energy imbalance, ocean heat content, ocean acidity, sea level, Arctic sea ice, Greenland ice, Antarctic ice, glacier mass, US area burned, global tree cover loss from fires, floods, hot days, human population, ruminant population, meat production, global GDP, global tree cover loss, oil, coal and gas use, heat deaths, CO2-equivalent emissions, per capita CO2-equivalent emissions, and fuel subsidies)  while 6 operational parameters were in the right direction (solar wind uptake, fertility rate, Amazon deforestation, institutional divestment from fossil fuels, carbon pricing coverage  and climate emergency declarations) and carbon pricing remained unchanged at about 10 times less than what it should be [35, 36].

Back in  2018 I addressed the worsening climate crisis in an analysis entitled “How Much Negative Carbon Emissions, Negative Population Growth & Negative Economic Growth Is Needed To Save Planet?” and concluded “Several recent reports collectively endorsed by thousands of expert scientists have warned the world that time is running out to save Humanity and the Biosphere from further catastrophic climate change and further massive biodiversity loss. Massive harm has already occurred due to continuing carbon pollution, population growth and economic growth and it is clear that zero growth in these areas is insufficient  – there must be negative carbon pollution (atmospheric CO2 draw-down), negative population growth (population decline) and negative economic growth (degrowth) to halt and reverse this worsening disaster” [37].

As of 2026 the latest data indicate that (1) greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, (2) population and (3) global GDP are all maximal and INCREASING as documented below.

(1). Atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs) are at maximum levels levels and increasing, as are 8 major source activities.

(i). Atmospheric GHG levels are maximal and increasing.

As measured at the US NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Global Monitoring Laboratory  at Mauna Loa , Hawaii, the atmospheric levels of the GHGs CO2 (carbon dioxide), CH4 (methane) , N2O (nitrous oxide) and the synthetic SF6 (sulphur hexafluoride) are still at record levels and increasing at a maximum rate (with the exception of  the near-maximal rate in the case of CH4) [38]. The  Global Warming Potential (GWP) of various key greenhouse gases relative to that of the same mass of CO2 on a 20-year time frame is 1.0 (CO2), 79 (CH4), 289 (N2O) and SF6 (16,300) [39]. Water (H2O) is a major atmospheric GHG (responsible for about 50% of the greenhouse effect) but unlike these other GHGs is a condensable gas (through hydrogen bonding of water molecules) and makes a negligible direct contribution  to anthropogenic global warming (because of condensation to clouds, rain, ice and snow, low residence time of added water in the atmosphere, and light reflection by clouds) but amplifies the greenhouse effect of non-condensable GHGs like CO2  [40-43].

(ii).  Annual global generation of  GHGs through CO2-generating combustion of fossil fuels is maximal and increasing or not decreasing.

(a).  Global oil extraction is maximal and not increasing. Global oil extraction steadily increased from 1990-2019, dipped significantly in the Covid-19 Pandemic years of 2020-2022,  and reached the pre-Covid-19 level in 2023 and 2024 [44].

(b). Global gas extraction is maximal and steadily increased in the period 1990-2024 with a slightly decreased rate in the Covid-19 Pandemic year of 2020 [45].

(c). Global coal production is maximal and steadily increased in the period 2017-2024 with a small dip in 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic [46].

(iii). Annual global urea production is maximal increasing.

Annual global urea production is maximal and steadily increased from 2009-2024 [47]. Annual global nitrogen fertilizer use for a variety of major crops increased in the period of about 1960-1990 and thence either kept increasing or remained about the same [48, 49]. The GHG N2O derives from oxidation of nitrogenous fertilizer [39].

(iv). Annual global cement production has plateaued at a maximum high rate.

Cement production involves heating limestone (CaCO3) to lime (CaO) with generation of CO2. Annual global cement production doubled from 2 billion tonnes in 2003 to 4 billion tonnes in 2013 and has thence plateaued at this maximum level [50].

 (v) Global methanogenic cattle population has steadily increased in 2012-2024.Carbon

Anaerobic bacteria in the gut of ruminant cattle generate methane (CH4) which is expelled by eructation (belching) [39]. The annual cattle population has steadily increased in the period 2012-2024 [51].

(vi). Global methanogenic sheep population increased over 2000-2021.

Like  cattle, sheep are ruminants and sheep anaerobic gut  bacteria generate methane (CH4) that is thence expelled by eructation (belching).  The global annual sheep population decreased in the period 1990-2000 but thence steadily increased in the subsequent 20 years [52].

(vii). Global iron ore extraction is maximal and increased over the period 2010-2025.

Iron oxide is reduced using coal as a reductant to generate iron (Fe): 2Fe2O3 + 3C -> 4Fe + 3 CO2. Daily global iron ore output is at a maximum and steadily increased from 2010 to 2025 [53].

(viii). CO2 sink destruction: both annual tropical and non-tropical deforestation increased over 2001-2020 (record high in 2024 due to forest fires).

Forests fix carbon dioxide photosynthetically as water-insoluble polysaccharide cellulose and hemicellulosic material in tree trunks and soil: nCO2 + nH2O + solar energy -> (CH2O)n + nO2 [39]. Annual deforestation is near-maximal and in the period of 2001 to 2020 annual deforestation steadily increased in both tropical and non-tropical settings [54]. World Resources Institute: “Global forest loss surged to record highs in 2024, driven by a catastrophic rise in fires, according to new data from the University of Maryland’s GLAD Lab, made available on World Resources Institute’s Global Forest Watch platform. Loss of tropical primary forests alone reached 6.7 million hectares — nearly twice as much as in 2023 and an area nearly the size of Panama, at the rate of 18 soccer fields every minute” [55].

(2). Global population is maximal and still increasing.

Global population is at a maximum and is increasing at a maximum rate but population growth is expected to slow in coming decades [56].

(3). Global GDP is maximal and still increasing.

There needs to be a halving of our presently largely carbon-based economic activity. Global GDP is maximal and has been increasing at a roughly maximal rate overall since 2023 except for a small dip in 2020  due to the Covid-19 Pandemic [57].

Final comments and conclusions.

Back in 2018 I argued that the world urgently needs negative greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, negative population growth and negative economic growth if we are to avert a climate catastrophe [37]. However a detailed analysis in 2025 showed that all 3 parameters were at maximum levels and positive – they were all increasing.

The present 2026 update shows that (1) atmospheric greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4 and N2O) are at maximum levels and increasing, as are major global contributor activities (oil, gas and coal extraction, urea production, cement production [plateaued], methanogenic cattle,  methanogenic sheep, iron ore extraction, and tropical and non-tropical deforestation), (2) global population is maximal and still increasing, and (3) global GDP is maximal and still increasing.

The relentless drive for financial betterment is reflected in the steady increase in global GDP. However effectively ignored is the damage-related Carbon Price (the cost of GHG pollution) that has been variously estimated at about $200 per tonne CO2-equivalent. However the average applied global Carbon Price is merely $2 per tonne CO2-equivalent. The consequent inescapable Carbon Debt (to be paid by future generations) is now about $250 trillion and increasing at about $16 trillion per year. [58-62].  However the increasing wealth gap may eventually drive the young to rebel and demand rational sustainability and economic justice for all. A one-person-one-vote World Government  in addition to the UNGA and UNSC and devoted to environmental sustainability, health,  and economic justice might speed up the process [63, 64].

However the world is badly running out of time as illustrated by the shocking inaction documented in this essay. In the absence of requisite urgent action the world is facing a worsening Climate Genocide in which 10 billion people will die en route to a sustainable human population of only 1 billion by 2100 [39]. The greed, genocidal  racism  and exceptionalism of the US- and West-backed 7  million Zionist Israelis (fewer than 0.1% of the global population, and fewer than 50% of the Subjects of Apartheid Israel) together with  Zionist-perverted Trump’s racism and  narcissism has brought the world to a Nuclear Holocaust precipice.

The world must unite to defend Humanity by (a) urgently halting global warming, and (b) applying draconian Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) to genocidally racist  Apartheid Israel, Zionist-subverted America and all people parties, politicians, collectives, companies and countries supporting US-backed and planet-threatening Apartheid Israel.
