Fun fact: the real name of Merkel’s paternal grandfather was Ludwig Kaźmierczak. Ludwig was born in Poznań and emigrated to Berlin after Poland regained independence, unlike the rest of his family he identified himself more like a German. After some time he changed his name to Kasner
