I think Sicily is the most beautiful part of Italy. Every corner of the island is a delight.

  1. I was in Sicily years ago for a couple of weeks with some mates.

We rented a car and drove most of the island to see old Roman and Greek stuff. Classics students gonna classics and all that.

I got to say, the Sicilians were the loveliest bunch I ever met. We were just 4 dumb Danes on a trip and we often had minor snafus like the hostel being booked for the wrong day or not booked at all when winging it and every damn time we were set straight by random people we met. One lady forced her cousins to stay longer in the hotel kitchen to whip us up some food, one hostel owner came and hung out with us until 2 in the morning explaining the best places in town because we’d arrived early and we several times ended up having limoncello with old ladies in restaurants who insisted on getting us slightly pissed while having their grankids translating for them while telling us stories.

10/10 would go again and have never missed an opportunity to insist people go to Sicily.

  2. Greek+Roman+Arab architecture, culture, food

One of a kind, i’m not even Sicilian but we all know this 🙂

  3. I just came back from Catania and I am sorry to say I found it underwhelming. The chaotic streets where you have to go on the middle of the road because there are no sidewalks and *so many cars* kept us on edge all the time (we travelled with a 5 year old) and there was SO MUCH TRASH everywhere! I thought it was a strike until locals confirmed that it’s always like that. I understand that there were catastrophic floods just some weeks ago, but my boyfriend spent the entire trip feeling uneasy because according to him he had never been anywhere else in Europe that reminded him so much of Afghanistan.
