Andhra Pradesh is set to take a major step in advanced technology as Amaravati prepares to host India’s first Quantum Test and Reference Facilities. The initiative is part of the ambitious Quantum Valley project and will be launched on April 14, marking World Quantum Day.
The Quantum Reference Facility will support testing and certification of quantum hardware, which is essential for building reliable quantum systems. Both test beds use indigenous technology. The 1Q system has been developed by Qubitekk, while the 1S system is based on superconducting technology.
These systems will operate at extremely low temperatures, close to minus 273°C, enabling precise testing of quantum components. The SRM University facility will also offer open access to researchers, students, and startups, helping accelerate innovation in the field.
Leading institutions such as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Science, and Defence Research and Development Organisation have supported the initiative.
The launch event is expected to attract scientists, IIT faculty, startups, and participants from the National Quantum Mission. Over 1.5 lakh students across the state will join virtually, reflecting rising interest in quantum technologies.
