Karlovac, 13 April 2026– A unique celebration of the film industry’s most overlooked professionals is set to take place this April, as the Stunt Festival arrives in Karlovac and Novigrad na Dobri on 17 and 18 April.

Far from being a pursuit of adrenaline, stunt work is a precise discipline rooted in control, risk management and the art of creating cinematic illusion. Behind every fall, fight or explosion lies meticulous preparation and teamwork.

“Limits are drawn where control ends,” says stunt performer and co-organiser Željko Matovina, highlighting the level of focus required in high-risk scenes. In moments involving jumps or fire, there is no panic, only discipline, timing and trust.

Despite the rise of CGI and digital effects, stunt performers remain central to delivering authentic action on screen.

Pegaz award honours stunt excellence

A key highlight of the festival will be the presentation of the Pegaz Award, often described as the “Oscar” for stunt performers.

Unlike many industry accolades, the Pegaz is awarded solely by peers, giving it particular significance. It symbolises courage, expertise and respect for a profession that often remains invisible to audiences.

Action-packed programme across two locations

This year’s programme brings cinematic action directly to the public through a series of live performances and interactive experiences.

Friday, 17 April – Karlovac

The festival opens with a spectacular and unconventional performance featuring a Jedi Master and lightsaber combat, setting the tone for a weekend of high-energy entertainment.

International and Croatian stunt professionals will take to the stage, joined by younger performers in dynamic routines inspired by fairy tales and global pop culture. A unique blend of action and music, dubbed “Swiftomania meets lightsabers”, promises a show that feels like a live film set.

A special guest, known for work on major productions including Greenland 2: Migration and Die Another Day, will also appear.

New to this year’s festival are stunt driving simulators, offering visitors the chance to experience high-speed manoeuvres in a safe environment. Attendees can test their reflexes, tackle challenging scenarios and even compete with professionals.

The festival also includes educational workshops, where stunt performers and actors will exchange skills, covering stage combat and on-screen weapon handling.

Additional activities will be available for younger audiences, making the event suitable for families.

In the afternoon, the programme returns to Karlovac for one of the festival’s most emotional moments, the presentation of a lifetime achievement award to veteran Croatian stuntman Ivo Krištof.

To mark the occasion, a free screening of the iconic film Gladiator, in which Krištof played a significant role, will be held.
