I guess the difference is in Czech roads being originally ancient horse and carriage or walk paths, while Canadian roads are the result of planning?
oh man that part of Canada is pretty close to me, it’s really cool to see the difference between gridded roads and the ones that organically formed
I was so confused by this- i thought they were connected- was like.. is canada also..in europe??
Prague is fucking tiny compared to Toronto. It’s the size of a neighborhood in Toronto
Southern Canada is flat terrain. The original roads were laid out by surveyors, probably in the early 1800s. I’m not sure where these roads are located in Czechia, but if it is hilly terrain, then the roads are likely to look like this.
Too much danger of falling asleep on all those straight roads.
The Czech roads take the easiest route from inhabited place to inhabited place. The Canadian roads are laid out first and then people settle on them.
But it looks a little apples and oranges. I’m guessing the Czech roads are old, in a long-settled region, and conform to hills and streams, while the Canadian roads we’re looking at were built on largely uninhabited flat terrain.
Old city before major terraforming
New city after city planning and road constructions became mainstream
Looks like I would get lost in both countries.
Being New World gives one the luxery of better planning.

Scale is roughly the same.

Such a difference
Are we comparing roads to streets?
