If you’re headed out to turkey hunt, keep an eye out for ticks.
Monday marked the opening of turkey hunting season in northern Illinois. With that in mind, folks at the Bureau, Putnam, & Marshall County Health Department say turkey hunters are at high risk for Lyme Disease from Blacklegged, or Deer Ticks. Health officials say turkey hunters will have lots of contact with the ground in tick habitat and must take precautions like showering immediately after hunting or treating clothes with repellent before heading into the woods.
The Bureau, Putnam, & Marshall County Health Department reported an increase in tick activity starting late last month. Blacklegged, or Deer Ticks specifically can carry the bacteria causing Lyme Disease.
