OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Federal authorities have brought charges against an illegal immigrant following an incident of someone shooting a rifle in Omaha.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Nebraska says an Omaha Police Department detective was monitoring a social media account last month when he saw video of a juvenile shooting a .22-caliber rifle in the air.
Authorities later went to the area of the shooting near 38th and Q streets, where they found spent rifle cartridges and two live rounds. They also found a vehicle that had been struck by bullets.
While still processing the scene, the juvenile suspect along with a second person, Brian Alexis Baldonado Belmontes, approached officers and allegedly admitted to the shooting.
Baldonado Belmontes told officers where the rifle was located and said he had crossed into the U.S. from Mexico at an unknown date. He is charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm while illegally being in the United States.
