Join a rare online discussion with Harvard historian Serhii Plokhii as he unveils fresh interpretations of Russia’s full-scale aggression. The session will reveal unexpected historical links and invite scholars to debate Ukraine’s role in a broader civilizational contest.

On Thursday, April 16, there will be an online meeting with the world-renowned historian, Harvard University professor Serhiy Plokhiy. He will present his new work “David and Goliath: Comments on the Russo-Ukrainian War” (2025), in which the historical roots and the current course of Russia’s full-scale aggression are examined.

According to AFUO’s page, the event will be held online.

The webinar will be a platform for discussing Plokhiy’s latest research. The book “David and Goliath” offers commentary on key events of the war, viewing it not only as a military conflict but also as a civilizational confrontation.

This session opens a series of USAANZ–RIPSS webinars “Thinking and Writing About Ukraine in a Turbulent World,” which aims to bring together leading scholars for a deeper understanding of Ukraine’s past and present.

The event is oriented toward an international audience of researchers, students, and all those interested in Ukrainian history and geopolitics.

We recall that previously at the Ukrainian House in Washington there was a presentation of Harvard professor Serhiy Plokhy’s book “The Nuclear Age: An Epic Race for Arms, Power, and Survival” (Ukrainian: “Ядерна епоха: епічна гонка за зброю, владу та виживання”).

This webinar opens a series of events aimed at deeper understanding of Ukraine’s role in world history and geopolitics. Participation in future discussions will help participants better navigate contemporary security and international relations processes.
