Federal review for offshore LNG project advances, meeting planned | News

Federal officials said the meeting is intended to give the public a chance to learn about the project and comment on issues raised in the draft environmental impact statement. 

Comments received during the review process will be considered in preparation of the final environmental impact statement.  Speakers at the public meeting will be recognized first from among elected officials, public agencies, individuals or groups who sign up at the meeting, followed by others who wish to speak. 

Remarks will be recorded and added to the public docket.

Written comments may also be submitted through the federal docket system under docket number MARAD-2025-0096. The notice says responsive materials must be submitted no later than 45 days after the Environmental Protection Agency publishes its notice of availability for the draft environmental impact statement in the Federal Register.

The Maritime Administration said the project application covers the proposed ownership, construction, operation and eventual decommissioning of the offshore terminal. Once the current comment period closes, MARAD and cooperating agencies will review substantive comments and prepare a final environmental impact statement. Federal law will then require a final public hearing in the adjacent coastal state before a decision is made on whether the deepwater port license should be approved.
