>Rebel Conservative MPs are drawing up plans for “vote strikes” to paralyse law-making and capitalise on the dramatic Boris Johnson no-confidence vote.
>
>Some of the 148 MPs who voted to oust the prime minister on Monday said they would try to stymie his government’s legislative agenda, as happened at the end of the Theresa May era, by abstaining on key laws.
>
>They plan to start with a showdown over a bill to override sections of the Northern Ireland protocol, to be published within days.
Not too unlike the tactics the ERG used. **”***Live by the sword…*
here’s hoping it pushes Boris towards an early GE, the tories need a good decade or so in opposition to sort themselves out
Those 12/1 odds on a 2022 general election are starting to look very generous.
It’s encouraging to see the Conservatives support strikes as a viable means of altering working conditions.
I don’t think that this move on its own will make a huge difference (I’m sure they’ll all unite when it comes to important votes) but this is just one component in the “death by a thousand cuts” that Johnson is facing.
Everything they do to make life a bit more difficult for Johnson and the Government will show other MPs that they only way to make this go away is to depose Johnson. The waverers who were considering voting against him on Monday will be shown that sticking with Johnson is even worse than they thought.
He’s a dead man walking!
If they cannot get rid of him outright, they might as well try to convince those who supported him that the party will never work as long as Johnson is leader. It would be nice if we could lose Johnson based on MPs choosing principles over their jobs, however getting rid of him at all is still a start.
Don’t start thinking these people are your friends. They still voted against feeding starving children, against pay rises for NHS staff they called heroes (while pocketing big pay rises themselves), voted against your rights to protest, and allowed the deportation of refugees to Rwanda. Amongst many other despicable Tory things. They could have taken action a long time ago.
Nah, BoJo will just offer them money for their constituency and they’ll vote with him.
Can’t let labor get in.
Hes under pressure to start removing the whip from what the party chief and cabinet call the “serial rebellers”. They will just get de selected.
