December in Latvia will be dominated by warm weather, and stable winter conditions are not expected until at least Christmas, according to forecasts.
Precipitation is expected more frequently this weekend, mainly in the form of rain, with sleet possible in some eastern parts of the country, but no snow cover will form.
On Saturday, temperatures will range from +2 to +7 degrees Celsius both at night and during the day, but on Sunday it will become slightly cooler, with temperatures around 0 to +5 C.
The air temperature will remain above zero for the rest of the week, and it will become even warmer in the middle of the week, with temperatures approaching 10 degrees in some places, setting new heat records.
For example, on Wednesday, 10 December, the air temperature in parts of Latvia will reach +9 to +10 C, while the previous national heat record for 10 December was set in 1964 in Kolka, when the temperature there was +8.9 C.
Next week will be windier overall, so fog will form less often, but precipitation is expected more frequently.
Long-term forecasts show that until the end of the month, temperatures will mostly be above the climatic norm, which means that a short-term cold spell is possible, but even if frost and snow do occur, they will not last longer than 2-3 days, followed by thaws and warmer weather.
At the end of the month, there is a slightly higher probability that temperatures will frequently drop below zero and snow cover will form.
