Imagine typing “create a campfire scene at night with realistic lighting” and watching a game build itself. That sci-fi concept is becoming a reality as Roblox rolls out new “agentic” artificial intelligence tools. Moving beyond simple code suggestions, the massive gaming platform is turning its AI into a fully autonomous, collaborative partner capable of designing, building, and even playtesting virtual worlds based purely on plain-language text prompts.

At the heart of this massive update is an enhanced feature called Planning Mode within Roblox Studio and Roblox Assistant. The company recognizes that game development is a complex, multidisciplinary endeavor that requires continual iteration. As Roblox explained in its announcement, older AI tools that try to take a prompt and output a solution in one step often fail to capture a creator’s original intent, feeling a bit like “shooting in the dark.” To fix this, Planning Mode takes a text prompt, analyzes the game’s existing code and data models, and acts like a true development partner.

It asks clarifying questions and generates a detailed, step-by-step action plan that serves as a mini game design document. Creators can then add context and tweak the plan to ensure it perfectly reflects their intent before any digital bricks are laid. Once a creator gives the green light, specialized AI agents get to work executing tasks in parallel. They handle the heavy lifting of game creation, including procedural generation of 3D assets and scaling gameplay objects to perfectly fit the environment. But building the world is only half the battle, which is why Roblox paired this with a new “playtesting agent beta.”

This AI-driven quality assurance tester automatically jumps into the newly generated experience to test it against the original plan. By analyzing the underlying code, reading system logs, and using the player character to verify behavior, the tester creates a self-correcting system that the company claims will only become more accurate over time, as per Gameindustry.biz.
