What are your best ethno/folk/folk-rock groups playing traditional music? What would be the Estonian equivalents of Latvian groups like Auļi, Iļģi, Raxtu Raxti, Tautumeitas? I’m assembling a playlist of traditional midsummer music and trying to make it last the whole night. Help would be greatly appreciated! (: And I promise to post it here when I’m done so you can have it too.
Update:
The playlist is finally complete after three days of intense binge-listening with a run-time of 12 hours, 5 minutes and 18 seconds in total.
Visit and appropriate to your own uses [here](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtgGTClrm9xbYK6S3j1tEqSlQdEB6K-l1).
Since my Estonian and Lithuanian language understanding is non-existent please forgive me if the playlist includes some completely midsummer-unrelated content. In addition to the very useful [Baltic folk](https://www.youtube.com/user/KaukusPameskiet?app=desktop0) YouTube channel containing playlists neatly classified by occasion from which I included midsummer folksongs, the songs by bands recommended by you, fellow redditors, I included based on the vibe they gave off as perceived by my ignorant ears. Thank you all for your contributions, I could not have compiled this magnum opus without you! ( :
P.S. Here is the description to the playlist I wrote. I would be grateful if you could translate it to Estonian. Please complain and suggest improvements if the playlist title in Estonian is inappropriate.
English playlist description:
The playlist consists primarily of Latvian summer solstice-related and other folksongs with Livonian, Estonian and Lithuanian additions. Run time: 12 hours, 5 minutes and 18 seconds. Lasts the entire midsummer night. Songs performed mostly a-cappella, some with traditional instrument accompaniment, a few in folk-rock style. Performances by “Laiksne”, “Skandinieki”, “Iļģi”, “Tuļļi Lum”“Zetod”, “Musica Intima”, “Lepaseree”, “Vägilased”, “Kūlgrinda” among others.
Latvian in case any of you can use it:
