LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Changes to downtown parking fees, a data center moratorium, and decisions that could impact neighborhood businesses and even the future of a downtown landmark are all on a packed agenda at Monday’s Lansing City Council meeting.
Residents will have the chance to weigh in on proposed parking changes in Downtown Lansing during a public hearing Monday. The proposed plan would delay the start of daily parking enforcement to 9 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. and increase fines, though drivers would be able to pay a reduced fine for parking meter violations if it’s paid by midnight on the day of the violation.
On top of the public hearing on parking and the push to temporarily halt new data centers in the city over energy concerns, the future of the Lansing Shuffle hangs in the balance.
City Council will discuss whether the proposed sale of the Lansing Shuffle building to its current owner and operator — Detroit Rising — should be sent to voters.
The council will also discuss amending ordinances to define the term “liquor store” within the city’s zoning code and a possible limit on proximity of liquor stores to each other.
On top of Monday’s busy agenda, councilmembers have been meeting with leaders from city departments, discussing their budgets before final decisions are expected next month.
