Surely the whole point of this is to send a message to other foreigners considering taking up arms in Ukraine? I can’t see this ending well.
If you fight as a mercenary you can expect no quarter in any conflict. They kept them alive to put on trial for propaganda purposes. They would have been equally justified to gun them down on the spot, its how mercenaries have always been dealt with.
Will the British government intervene if British citizens are killed in bogus Russian trials?
