It’s pronounced scone and no one can tell me otherwise

  1. I say it as rhymes with cone, but since there is a town in Scotland called Scone – was it named after that, and so isn’t their way the original pronunciation?

  2. I lived in Scotland and the first time my workmates heard me say scone (rhyming with cone) I took a slagging and they called me a posh cunt 😂. I’m far from posh.
Scone (rhyming with one) is correct to them 🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. Since we’re talking about this, does anyone else get irrationally annoyed when people on tv pronounce medicine as “med-sin”?

Or am I just a weirdo?

  4. Remember it’s bike not bikey as some Nike wearers tell you “check out my new nikeys”
Another is that Fridge has D in it and Refrigerator doesn’t !!!

  5. gone like a fresh Scone. ‘Scon’ is the only correct way to say it. and while, as mentioned below, the Scottish town of Scone is definitely pronounced as Scoon (/ˈskuːn/), it went through a lot of spelling changes over the centuries. I recommend to take a tour of the castle and grounds, where any one of the lovely guides will tell you the exact same thing.

further note: Wiki lists previous spellings: ‘Scone has been written as Scon, Scoon, Scoan, Scoine, Schone, Skoon, Skune, Skuyn, Skuyne, Sgoin, Sgàin and Sgoinde’, which are pretty far from the ‘cone Scone’ pronunciation you have been falsely utilising. 😉

  6. The only one that’s worse is Nuclear. It drives me up the feckin walls when people pronounce it Nuc-ya-lur. Where are yis getting the ya from?

  7. So VCe will always make the V long.

Pine the I says it’s name

Prune the U says it’s name

Game the a says it’s name.

Scone the o says it’s name.

    Debate over

  8. Lol, which pronunciation is it then, Scone or Scone?

I’m guessing you meant rhymes with cone or bone. I’d be in agreement.
