>Between the lines: River crossing operations are “likely to be amongst the most important determining factors in the course of the war, the U.K. Ministry of Defense said in its intelligence report on Monday, as the Russian military invasion entered its 110th day. “To achieve success in the current operational phase of its Donbas offensive, Russia is either going to have to complete ambitious flanking actions, or conduct assault river crossings,” the defense ministry said. “Ukrainian forces have often managed to demolish bridges before they withdraw, while Russia has struggled to put in place the complex coordination necessary to conduct successful, large scale river crossings under fire.”
I think all of the early cheering was welcome but will cause some whiplash for the majority of folks who don’t follow closely.
Ukraine has no chance long-term without further European and American support. It was a big win when Ukraine pushed back and resisted the quick conquest, but the prolonged engagement they don’t have the equipment or infrastructure for… and as Zelensky points out, it the West loses interest, he will lose the nation.
From the strictly military point of view, isn’t a bridge legitimate target, no matter civilians crossing it by bus or train?
This seems weird, given that it also makes a russian advance more troublesome.
So, the UAF fighters in the Azot plant can’t escape or be reinforced either.
This is a bit silly. Sure it’s used by civilians, but it’s also used to reinforce and resupply the Ukrainian army. They’re making it sound like a warcrime, destroying bridges is pretty standard in warfare. Russia definitely didn’t destroy it to trap civilians.
The main question is why have t civilians leave city before the battle begin. Because every one knows that the battle will happen.
What are civilians doing there are all? It has been contested for a month, 90% of buildings are damaged. So. what civilians are still there?
