All religions need to fk off tbh. Religion should be small scale and private, and should have no voice at all to be honest over what the rest of us do.
Especially those that are simply incompatible with modern views.
I am a Muslim. This censorship should not be allowed. A small loud minority of right wingers do not get to dictate who gets to watch what. Fuck these people.
I thought they’d all be exhausted from protesting after pride week
I can understand why they’d want to protest this, the wikipedia page went from 0 – 100 really quick.
“In addition to 7th century Islamic history from the Twelver Shia perspective, the film attempts to link Islamic State in the 21st century and the origins of Islamic terrorism with historical figures revered in Sunni Islam.”
It’s up to a private business whether they stop showing the film or not, nobody’s being censored.
How pathetic and spineless. The more you bend to the will of these sorts of threats, the more you are asking to be dictated to by a violent minority
I’m just here to point out that bringing up Christianity is a pretty irrelevant thing to do here. You’re being distracted.
We should not bow down to religious extremists and give them an inch just because they are loud and angry. They are wrong and stupid and can fuck off.
So reading the article the people protesting are saying that the movie is sectarian. Is that the case?
Because while I’d consider protesting something that’s “blasphemous” as silly, protesting something that’s sectarian propaganda doesn’t strike me as unreasonable.
Another day in /r/uk of one particular religion showing it’s incompatible with western liberal democracy and the brave users of this sub taking the opportunity to decry “religion” as an abstract concept. Yeah, because that’s the problem. The Jains, the Sikhs, the Shintoists. Don’t anybody dare mention the actual specific religion that’s the problem here and in the most other instances of concerning religious extremism in the UK
Film written by a Shia Muslim cleric, that links the IS and modern Islamic terrorism to Sunni Islam. Yeeaah ima stay outta this one haha
not blasphemous in the uk, just a certain group wanting their own way
Blasphemy shouldn’t still exist… How has religion held on this fucking long
>The Lady of Heaven is a 2021 British epic historical drama film directed by Eli King in his directorial debut and written by the radical Twelver Shia Muslim cleric Yasser Al-Habib, the spiritual leader of The Mahdi Servants Union. Produced by Enlightened Kingdom, the film bills itself as the first movie on the life of the historical figure, Fatimah, during and after the era of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. In addition to 7th century Islamic history from the Twelver Shia perspective, **the film attempts to link Islamic State in the 21st century and the origins of Islamic terrorism with historical figures revered in Sunni Islam.**
Ah, that’s why. Isn’t Sectarianism wonderful?
100 people protested so they removed it? What would they do if 500 people turned up to protest the removal?
I for one was in the outrageous view when I first saw the headline
but when I dug deeper and found out the the shia producer was attempting to warp history and link sunni figures from the past to ISIS
I mean I don’t blame them for protesting, if anything well done to them
as there is a lot of fake news that gets spread about Islam
if nobody protested about this
people who don’t know anything about the religion would watch this and take it as fact
with this media coverage, even if people were to watch it, they would know it is not historical fact now and a majority of Muslims do not agree with it
the problem with reddit (I am also a victim of this problem), is that most don’t read past the sensationalized headline
Freedom of speech is under threat from so many angles.
It’s time we stood up to all of those opposing it.
That’s anyone with half a brain not going to cineworld
What a bunch of dicks, losing their shit over made up fairy tales LMAO
Imagine for a moment that a film was created about the catholic/protestant divide in Northern Ireland during the height of the Troubles which purposefully demonised one side of the conflict and was clearly intended to stir up sectarian conflict. If people protested against the showing of this film and the cinema pulled it as a result in order to avoid being responsible for possible sectarian violence I’m fairly certain the general public response wouldn’t be outrage about supposed censorship. But some people are just looking for any excuse to hate Muslims I guess.
More like the cinema is afraid of a Charlie Hebdo scenario…
> “In Bolton, we are a very diverse community and are very respectful of each other’s culture and honour on community cohesion.”
As long as you do exactly what we want.
Sounds like a few Muslims have taken offense (rightly or wrongly) and decided that due to their beliefs they want to censor it from the rest of the British public.
My concern is where does this stop? We Brits are a pretty tolerant nation when it comes to beliefs and religion… The Muslims involved in this protest need to consider where they are living. If they would like to move to a religious country governed by religious laws they are free to do so.
They are not free, however, to prevent other people with other religious beliefs to seeing/reading/watching what they wish by demonstrating outside a place of business. If they tables were turned and say a religious group turned up outside their mosques to protest about certain valued ideologies they might hold, or something written about in the Quran, I doubt they would be okay with that.
It is a shame Bolton Cinema caved to this religious protest as it goes against everything this country stands for.
P.S. Disclaimer: I haven’t seen the film. Not my kind of thing anyway.
Yeah if people had actually read beyond the headline, this film seems like it set out to demonize Sunni Muslims by attempting to associate figures that are important in Sunni history with ISIS. It’s like, if a Catholic film maker made a movie that portrayed the Archbishop of Canterbury as a goose-stepping seig-heiling Nazi, people would quite reasonably object on the grounds of taste and historical accuracy. This film looks like a pretty filthy sectarian hatchet-job, which it is perfectly within people’s rights to protest.
I just can’t q*white* put my finger on why people object to Muslims expressing themselves when they are demonized? People are just *racist* to a conclusion when they’ve only read the headline, and fill in all of their own ready-made stereotypes about ‘extremist Muslim terrorists’. A whole Reddit thread full of people telling on themselves and displaying their spectacular ignorance.
Hilarious how many people in the comments are ranting about the Christians and the Church if England when the article clearly states it’s Muslims complaining as usual
Why is everyone blaming this on the COE when the article states it’s due to complaints of blasphemy from Muslims?
If God or Allah is omnipotent, why does he need some neckbeards with nothing else going on in their life to do his bidding and shut down a showing of a film?
Couldn’t he just strike all the cinemas with lightning or something?
Oh shut the fuck up,
Keep your religious beliefs to yourself.
Down vote me if you wish, But the way politics and society bows down to a literally fantasy novel is outrageous.
I don’t like it when loads of Muslim lads deal drugs to teenagers in my town. Don’t see me put with a picket sign or don’t see the rest of the muslim community condemning these peaceful brothers, who literally sell crack amd herrlin to kids.
The UK is a secular state. Don’t watch the fucking film. Simple.
Import the third world become the third world.
Fragile bunch of fuckers.
I welcome all people and cultures to the UK, on the condition that they leave behind any values that go against our own.
What these fanatical Muslims are doing goes totally against the British values of free art, thought and expression. Religions, cults, corporations, and organisations should never be allowed to censor that.
If Muslims don’t approve of the film, they are free to not watch it. They do not have the right to bully cinemas into pulling it. The characters and stories of Islamic mythology are just that – myths. They are not protected or special, and are open to portrayal by any and all artists. Just like the characters of Christian, Greek, Egyptian, Norse, or Hindu mythology.
Anyone who disagrees with that should go and live somewhere else.
Muslims come to the UK for a better life and the want to turn us back 400 years. When in Rome Etc. etc. .
Guess I’m an Islamaphobe if I disagree with this but fuck them. Islam should have no voice here. People coming here should integrate with our society and culture or get the fuck out.

I thought we were a secular state here in the UK?
If people don’t like something they are under no obligation to watch it.
Downvote me. But religious views shouldn’t be allowed to dictate the entertainment available to the majority.
Just put the film back after a few days, these people have lives to get on with and they can’t spend every day shouting at a building.
Ah, excellent, bowing to extremist religions – lovely.

The video I saw of the protest was just a load of guys out taking pictures of a super buff looking 20m high picture of Tom Cruise.
Protesting. Sure 😘.
