Germany: FDP wants “at least 400,000 immigrants per year” – for prosperity

  1. Rejected but well-integrated asylum seekers should be able to stay in Germany in the future – that is the intention of a draft bill by Interior Minister Faeser. According to SPIEGEL, this does not go far enough for the FDP.

The draft law by Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) for a residence perspective for well-integrated tolerated immigrants is for the Free Democrats “an important first building block for the beginning of a major reform.” Christian Dürr, head of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag, told SPIEGEL.

If prosperity is to be secured, however, Germany needs “at least 400,000 immigrants per year. Faeser’s proposal is a “good approach,” but it is not enough to make Germany “a modern immigration country,” he said. “In a next step, we must develop an immigration law that reduces bureaucratic hurdles and allows extensive migration into the labor market,” Dürr demands.

  2. How much of the FDP platform is enabling immigration? They’re economic liberals and this is economically liberal, but I didn’t think they’d tread that ground.

  3. Okay, send 10 million Spanish workers to Germany, Spain has high unemployment rate problem, depopulation shall be better for Spain.

  4. Yeah I would advise people not to immigrate (especially non Europeans) – this policy will quickly turn into racism and other issues. Example swedenstan.

  5. The FDP had always a rather interesting immigration policy – at least on paper. In the end, they basically just voice what a lot of economics say: Germany (as well as other countries with shrinking populations due to low birth rates) need migrants. Of course mostly on high-paid specialized jobs. The FDP will also be interested in low wage workers to keep the tension for these kind of jobs (everyone who thinks that this doesn’t bring problems lies).

According to the stats, we had already 1,9 million people coming to Germany in 2020 (that includes all of the relevant subgroups: refugees, people with jobs offers from EU countries and non EU countries and so on). Compared to that number, 400.000 is the low threshold.

Smart move, FDP: You make it look like you are pro immigration (which you, in a way) are) but this is nowhere near any ‘They opened the floodgates!’ panic you expect from the usual suspects.

  6. Oh great.

I am sure refugees who had little education, doesn’t even speak our language, and practice islam fundamentalism is exactly the future engine of economic growth. A easy google search will tell you, that from half to two-thirds of refugees rely entirely on public benefits 7 years after arriving in Germany.

When people say migrants will boost GDP, they meant selective migration of tech professional, engineers and programers. The type that built silicon valley. Not what we have been doing

  7. This is something we have been seeing in the u.s. quite a lot. Business needs an overwhelming amount of workers.

They don´t need 2 workers to apply for a job, they need 200. (for obvious reasons)

  8. Germany *needs* hundreds of thousands of immigrants just to keep the population afloat. It’s not necessarily a matter of “want”.

  9. Didn’t Germany get a million or two of immigrants from the Middle East recently? Just put them to work

  10. Germany is not that big of a country with an 80million population or so, how can they sustain those numbers per year?

  11. Europe needs migrants , some recognise that .. once they are of the right educational and cultural background .. No issues.

  12. r/europe is really interesting, socially liberal on all matters, except immigration where its almost far right lol – seems like a very loud minority here

  13. Translation: Native Germans aren’t having enough babies, so we have to accept immigrants in order to balance the population.

  14. I saw some advertisements in Germany today: get a job in 2 minutes “just scan the qr code”. I guess that tells you something. But hey, the Netherlands is in the same boat. And I’m sure many countries aswell.

We fucked up we need to take a step back and be happy with less and let things consolidate a bit.

  15. Didn’t found it.

Fdp stands for “fils de pute” in French. Which mean son of a bitch. That’s kinda funny

  16. OK, so make it easier for people from Latin America to come.

There are way way more skilled people from LATAM than you think that would love to come to Europe, but it isn’t very easy.

Of course, I suspect that FDP doesn’t just want “immigrant”, they want the kind of immigrants that will work poorly-paid jobs without asking for a lot, thus making them a more profitable workforce for the companies who hire them…
