Quoting Angela Rayner:
> “It’s time to stop the rot. This Prime Minister’s own anti-corruption tsar walked out on him over his blatant breach of the rules, in the wake of stinging criticism from his top ethics advisers
> “There is no one and nothing he won’t drag down in his desperation to cling onto power. The committee on standards in public life was founded by Sir John Major a quarter of a century ago but its role has never been more important in upholding standards in the wake of sleaze, scandal and shame.
> “Labour is urging MPs of all parties to support this independent, cross-party package of reforms to tackle decaying standards. if they fail to back this move to clean up politics, it is they who will have to look their constituents in the eye.”
In particular, the recommendations include that an independently appointed adviser be able to initiate investigations into, and determine breaches of, the ministerial code.
If the 148 Tory MPs who voted against Johnson find it in their hearts to support the motion, it seems likely to pass.
If they don’t support it, voters may wonder how they differ from the Johnson enablers who voted to keep the lawbreaking PM.
This will go largely unreported on in the MSM.

I hope this angle ignites a fire in the public. Those previously apathetic because “they’re all the same” are being shown a chance to change that while anyone unhappy with our system being destroyed and mocked so brazenly should find it easy to rally behind tackling corruption.

Labour is demanding a vote by MPs on implementing the standards in public life committee’s [recent recommendations](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1029944/Upholding_Standards_in_Public_Life_-_Web_Accessible.pdf) (PDF).
