>The student and a fellow student focused on potential victims for days. They set up templates and asked students to write down their complaints about their fellow student. Four days later, they had fifteen reports, supported by written testimony, audio recordings of both alleged victims and witnesses, and also text messages with the targeted student. Ten filed a complaint by name. Five others wished to remain anonymous. Their charges: derogatory and racist remarks, violence – for example, he put a knife to a student’s throat – and eight reports of sexual aggression.

>On May 20, the disciplinary committee of the VUB pronounced its punishment. In a nutshell, the student is no longer allowed to attend anywhere at the VUB except for his exams. “Any necessary work lectures he may attend only if the dean and professor approve. The lease on his student room was terminated within the week. The dean and security on campus have also been informed,” says VUB spokesman Sicco Wittermans. What the university does not tell, but did let the victims know: his sentence ends on May 20, 2023. So basically, after a year, the diplomat’s son is a student like any other again.
