David Lammy visits Afghanistan to highlight humanitarian crisis

  1. It’s disgusting what America is doing to that country, but I don’t think a supporter of apartheid is the man to highlight it

  2. We tried, they didn’t want our help and now they’ve got the country they asked for. The speed in which the Taliban retook power demonstrated pretty clearly that they had huge support accross the country. Sorry, but we’ve put decades, hundreds of lives and billions into that country – I see no need to add any more.

  3. You cannot force democracy on people. We literally proved that. Multiple countries, multiple decades, not just billions but trillions spent, and the country fell in hours as hardly anyone wanted to fight for it and the equipment they were given to defend with was sold off before, during and after.

We would be better off offering support for those who wish to leave than to try and change the country. You can instigate revolutions in foreign land but it still needs the interest of the people and the will to die for change.

We also cannot just prop up the Taliban rulers. Their failures are needed to encourage the people to demand change. We can only offer support if they change behaviours.
