So what ? This cost increase is as always going to the next customer bill. Lmao
One way to help keep down the cost of living could be to reduce fuel duty to zero for haulers for a bit.
£20k extra per lorry is absolutely huge, and just makes its way down the chain to the consumer.
For high value stuff, like iphones.. Okay, it’s not going to add much onto the price.
But a packet of crisps? High volume, low cost… It increases the cost substantially to ship them.
This is why we’ve seen shortages, imo. I noticed it was high weight/volume, low cost items that we stopped seeing as readily in supermarkets. Bottled water was the first aisle to disappear.
I wonder if we’ll see more of a move towards railway based logistics over the coming decades?
The cost of fuel increases puts small firms out of business. The big hauliers buy fuel in bulk and the more you buy the bigger the discount.
When fuel got to £1 a litre all the haulage firms protested and blocked the roads. Where are they now? Have they all been paid off?

That must be a big tank. Is it a fuel tanker?
