Rural roles created to tackle Highland and isles depopulation

  1. I’d love to be a part of that resettlement effort … I’d need WiFi of course, TV, and a nice cozy pub down the way and it would be perfect.

  2. Got to admit I love living way out here. Nobody to bother you.

    Pro
    Isolation if you like that.
Local Village everyone will know you.
    Amazing walks
Rural life away from the city humdrum.
    Buy local goods way cheeper

    Cons
Trade off. Public transport is near dead.
Expect power cuts in the winter, so you want some self generation.
Heating oil gets stolen no matter how secure you make it.
    Fuel is expensive.
    Isolation in storms happens

All in all no way I would willingly go back to a town and hell needs to freeze over before I would go near a city.

  3. Create sinecures in order to keep on ignoring the elephant in the room.

Much of the Highlands is owned by a few dozen landowners in huge estates stolen during the clearances, who charge excessive rents while doing nothing to improve the infrastructure, ensuring that natives are locked into low-paid sheep farming and estate work.

Until the land issue is sorted nothing will change.
