Moin guys,
So I’m pretty frustrated here and I don’t know how to proceed or what to do so sorry if this isn’t the right sub for this
*Some context:*
Both I and my friend are Egyptians. I left Cairo for Hamburg over two years ago to a master’s program and finally, I’m almost done. I start a new full-time position in October at a pretty sweet company but I just landed the job and just now looking to switch my student residence permit to a normal work resident permit.
At the moment I’m in limbo, however. My student permit expired on April 15th, I have been consistently trying to apply for an appointment since Feb to avoid this shitty situation but the Eimsbüttel Ausländerbehörde is just not nice, and honestly incompetent. They lost my digitally uploaded documents (or so they told me) and didn’t notify me about it until I called them in April to ask where is my appointment, at which point they told me they didn’t process my appointment because I didn’t upload my documents. Lucky enough their system autogenerates a confirmation email when you submit your documents sooo they were proven wrong. Now I expected to get some sort of expedited appointment since I did my due diligence and the problem was from their side, riiiight?? Wrong! They sent me an email with an appointment on 20.06 and another email explaining that’s the earliest slot they have? Earlier they had sent me this [paper](https://i.ibb.co/DMvqk20/4-Passport-Residence-Permit-001.jpg) which as far as I understand, extends my residence permit until the appointment, *but does not allow me to re-enter Germany*. **And that my dears is where I lose my fucking mind.** I am trapped here until my appointment; until they give me a fiktionsbescheinigung. I already missed two important weddings ffs.
*My friend’s context:*
This is my childhood friend, love the guy to death. A couple of months ago he was hired by a very nice company in Egypt, and they are sending him to Vienna for a 3-day conference. It was veryyyy exciting because well, you gon meet your bestfriend in Europe! We thought it’ll be a normal Schengen visa with 90 days. [But no](https://i.ibb.co/8KGvnYR/Whats-App-Image-2022-06-14-at-6-30-45-PM-1.jpg). The duration is 3 days exactly to match this conference he is attending, what the hell, Austria? We had already planned that he will join me in Hamburg for a week and then depart to Cairo from Hamburg at his own expense, but now this plan is fucked.
*Here is the timeline:*
He arrives on the 16th and has to leave on the 18th. My appointment is on the 20th. Please tell me is it really the case that I can’t take a flight to Vienna with this paper I have? Could he possibly overstay his visa without consequences? ^(Asking because I read somewhere on a similar Reddit post about a 15-day grace period, although I also read that it’s discretionary depending on the state.)
I’m just very sad and frustrated about this right, the stars couldn’t have misaligned any more than this. Any advice is appreciated really I just don’t know what my options are at this point.
Thanks!
P.S.: I thought of going to Passau by train and he could from Vienna, but that train ride is 12 hours, and I don’t know how long I’ll get to spend with him, but it would be definitely less time than that train ride.
P.S.S. This sub tends to be hard sometime please just take it easy on me I can’t really take any more humiliation today.

You are a bit last minute now, but can he try to get a tourist visa for the following week? I guess thats your best option aside from taking a hiking trip trough the alpes.
Well, if you overstayed your visa you could be facing a two year ban on (re)entering the EU.
It really comes down to the leniency of the Ausländerbehörde.
In principle, your current residence permit will automatically be extended as long as you apply for the new one before the expiry date. I have never seen the document in your link (normally they would issue you a Fiktionbescheinigung), but it literally said that your current residence permit will continue to be valid until 31.08.2022.
I think you should be able to travel with this document together with your old residence permit. Maybe you can call them to confirm.
