Ritratt: Miguela XuerebA new Nationalist Government would build new hospitals across Malta and Gozo, Alex Borg pledged on Tuesday.
Addressing a mass rally in front of the Nationalist Party’s Headquarters in Tal-Pietà, Borg presented the Nationalist Party’s vision for the health sector, listing several projects he planned to carry out when in Government.
Among others, he mentioned the following measures:
Construction of a new hospital in the northern part of MaltaExpansion of the Paola Hub, which will be converted into a hospitalImprovements at Mater Dei Hospital to keep up with increasing demandConstruction of a new hospital in GozoConstruction of a High-Quality Centre that promotes a better lifestyle to improve physical and mental health – a new facility dedicated to prevention, early intervention, and rehabilitationIntroduction of a process to eliminate hospital waiting lists and surgical backlogsProvision of all cancer medications prescribed by a consultant, free of chargeMental health care within the community, with modern facilities and support in schoolsIncreased investment in healthcare workers: better conditions, careers, training, and salariesA single digital system for patient medical records and a “digital front door” for health servicesStrengthening of primary health centres to offer urgent care, diagnostics, and minor procedures in the same location, with extended hoursCoordinated hospital discharge planning and follow-up care within the community
