  8. Working my fingers to the bone and paying rent for the last 10 years……for what……what fucking chance does a singel man in his late 20s have in Ireland.

    I have no plan, I don’t see the point unless I meet a girl who I can see having a future with, but that’s how sad it is in Ireland…..if you are single you are shit out of luck

    Like how in the blue fuck can someone in government making hundreds of thousands of euro a year with a big house know what is best for the boots on ground people like ourselves…..they are detached from our reality completely.

    If you paid a government a basic wage like a Centra worker you would see who wants to work for the good of the people and you will see who wants to work for a paycheck, that’s the difference.

    Get people born in the 90s to lead our government people who fully understand the absolutely fucking shit show that is modern Ireland get people who don’t have hundreds of thousands of euro in a savings account people who have starved themselves to get to the other end of college people who lived in hostels for years on end just so they can get a degree, get people who know what it is like to be heading into your 30s with absolutely no and I mean NO aspect of having what our parents had….the things we had growing up.

    A basic life in Ireland…IS BUT A DREAM.

    I see a lot of people telling me to immigrate but unfortunately not everybody fits into that category of wanting to immigrate, I’m an Irish man I love Ireland and I have no desire to move out it shouldn’t be like that, it shouldn’t be the only option is to jump on a plane and move your whole your life to a different country just so you can get a quality of life. My life is here in Ireland not in England or Canada or new Zealand…..I literally have no ambition to move to any of them places.

  11. Everyone wonders why I’m leaving the country. I do not want to rent for my entire life. My parents had their own house in their late 20s. How can I possibly achieve that? I haven’t got remotely enough money to even dream about renting a decent place to start a life in, maybe a bedroom in Kildare..

  17. The housing crisis is primarily driven by one-factor immigration. It’s not ‘far-right’ to state facts. Ireland’s population has been growing by an average of 100k a year for the past 6-7 years. This year we have added stressors, Ukrainian refugees (27K) and asylum seekers (1,400k per month) combined with non-EU work visas (40k) and EU workers that figure will be ~200k. You cannot (given) the construction constraints (materials+labour) out build this population rise. The economic name for this is ‘the tragedy of commons’ too many people using the same resource drive prices higher , San Francisco is a classic example of this occurrence.

    was renting out a property in Galway city to six people, mostly mature students and researchers at NUI Galway.
    The house, on Sylvan Road in Newcastle, was generating a monthly rent of €2,220 for Higgins and his wife, Sabina, who jointly bought the detached property in July 2014.
    The couple also retained their long-term family home — Aimhirgin, in Letteragh, Rahoon, Co Galway — since moving into Aras an Uachtarain in 2011. The president also owns a two-bedroom apartment in Grattan Hall in Mount Street in Dublin, which he used during his 38 years as a senator and TD. His daughter, Senator Alice Mary Higgins, currently lives in the apartment.
    So I’m calling him a massive hypocrite, he’s a millionaire who has participated in and benefited enormously from the property disaster in this country.

  28. It is pretty speech but I am maybe just a bit tired of speeches with nothing behind them. And I wouldn’t expect any less from a poet than a pretty speech. I prefer to look at track record of what people do and deliver these days.

    I do like how he highlights how effective our foreign affairs policies are, our economic policies are ok too but fucking hell our urban development, planning process and housing policies are pathetic and have been for years and even decades. And it is not just the policies it is the delivery/putting the policy into action is where go terribly wrong. When I look at the absolute disasters that is building new hospitals has been in Ireland it is no wonder that the government and the councils can’t build houses. The knowledge and experience needed is just not in the civil service or the politicians. Maybe we have too many politicians working on delivering pretty speeches to get good press.

    Reading the above, I am starting to feel old. I used to believe and care a bit but just the repeated fuck ups have left me even more cynical.
