  2. article:

    >The prime minister’s anti-corruption tsar has resigned over Boris Johnson’s response to the Sue Gray report into partygate – and will vote for him to go tonight.
    >
    >John Penrose has sent his resignation letter to the PM just hours after it was announced a confidence vote in Mr Johnson’s leadership will take place between 6pm and 8pm today.
    >
    >The MP for Weston-super-Mare has been the UK’s anti-corruption champion at the Home Office since 2017 but said he could no longer be in his post as Mr Johnson had not addressed the “failures of leadership and judgment” Ms Gray said had taken place over lockdown-breaking parties in Downing Street.
    >
    >He said Mr Johnson has therefore breached “a fundamental principle of the Ministerial Code – a clear resigning matter” but said his letter to Lord Geidt, the PM’s independent adviser on the code, “ignores this absolutely central, non-negotiable issue completely”.
    >
    >Mr Penrose confirmed to Sky News he will be voting against the PM this evening and said this is “the beginning of the end”.
    >
    >He said: “I’m sorry to have to resign as the PM’s anti-corruption tsar but, after his reply last week about the ministerial code, it’s pretty clear he has broken it.
    >
    >”That’s a resigning matter for me, and it should be for the PM too.”

  3. What’s the fucking deal with people calling Tories Tsar’s??? Is this to highlight the amount of Russian influence in the party or what?

  4. This anti-corruption tsar guy must think he’s like a Lifeguard at the olympics. Most pointless shit ever. Every single thing they touch is corruption.

  5. The man he hired to root out corruption has concluded he’s corrupt.

Is this one of the ‘big calls’ the PM’s allies insist he’s got right?

  6. So that’s the anti corruption tsar and BJs “independent ethics advisor” both saying he broke the ministerial code, but apparently this is just ” media’s favourite obsession”

And yet still around half of Tories will continue to support him.

  7. I think many of you might not remember or connect the dots but John Penrose is more commonly known as Dido Harding’s husband.

Dido Harding as in the completely incompetent university friend of Johnsons who keeps failing upwards and was the one who was in charge of the NHS track & trace that was an absolute fucking shambles

  8. Fully expect Johnson to just easily sail through this vote and gain license to do whatever as he’ll be immune to another vote for a while

  9. This is a clean break for Boris. Of all the thing’s he’s done partygate is the least consequential. Being “forced out” of his party for being a little bit naughty is nothing on being held accountable for robbing the country blind.

  10. If partygate pushed him over the edge but not the way contracts were handled during the pandemic and during Brexit preparations… what the fuck were they doing all this time? Sticking their fingers in their ears and going “lalalalalala I can’t hear you” maybe?

  11. Why do these people fucking resign in protest. It’s literally this person’s job to stay and make sure PM resigns.
