Cinco de Mayo is around the corner, and there’s one fiesta on the Grand Strand you won’t want to miss.
At noon on Tuesday, May 5, Taco Mundo Kitchen y Cantina at Barefoot Landing kicks off the biggest Cinco de Mayo fiesta on the Grand Strand. General Manager Erin Parker said she expects that the celebration, now in its eighth year, will attract between 2,500 and 3,000 attendees.
Whether docking the boat or arriving by car or golf cart, guests will enjoy breathtaking views of the Intracoastal Waterway, along with taco specials, giveaways and a human pinata who, when hit enough times with pool noodles, gives out swag and prizes.
At 1:00, live music with Kellie J & Larinza begins and at 4:00, sponsor Don Gato Tequila, founded by Danny McBride, will have representatives on site for tequila tastings. Throughout the afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to purchase food and margaritas, frozen soft-serve margaritas and buckets of beer from various walk-up stations set up around the property.
As the restaurant doesn’t take reservations and is first-come-first-serve, Parker suggested bringing lounge chairs for sitting on the lawn while savoring the Mexican fare and beverages while listening to music, rather than standing in line to be seated. For those who prefer to sit at a table, there will be a wait time –but as Parker said, there are many attractions at the fiesta and around Barefoot Landing to enjoy until your name is called from the list.
Once seated amongst the authentic and energetic Mexican decor, the food and service will be timely as usual due to increased staff that day. All menu items except for salads will be available to order. For starters, Parker recommended the Mundo trio dip with pico de gallo, queso and guacamole, served with fresh tortilla chips, the firecracker shrimp or the loaded refried bean dip. For the main course, she suggested any of the extensive options of quesadillas, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas or rice bowls. The margarita options will be limited to frozen lime, loco coco and blood orange.
