I’m sure the comments will be all like “look at that mountain range” and “awesome river delta” and definitely not about Crimea.
I always have kind of wondered why that bit the other side of the Carpathians doesn’t belong to Hungary. I can’t imagine keeping infrastructure connected in that little bit being cheap or easy considering it’s an EU border.
toured most of what is labelled the ‘steppes’ of Ukraine with a rented car in Sept 2013. drove from Kiev to Odessa, Odessa to Simferopol (Crimea), then around the peninsula, then taking the roads closer to Dnepr leading up to Dnipropetrovsk and ultimately back to Kiev. wish I could do it again some day.

Love how now, publishing any kind of map of Ukraine, is a political statement and declaration of support to either of two opposing poles, depending on whether the publisher included or excluded the Crimean peninsula.
