Hi, I’m just wondering how we choose a trade union and unemployment fund.

I’ve been looking at a few links but still don’t really understand why there are so many, how you’re supposed to choose one, what the benefits of one over another are, etc.

Some links I found:

Unemployment funds:

  1. The union and unemployment fund that your branch of work belongs to. Eg. Pam for retail.

If you only want unemployment fund, then YTJ is a good option. The funds don’t really differ from each other.

Edit: and when you join union, you join the unemployment fund automatically too.

  2. On AKT. When I joined union I got unemployment fund also. I suggest you could contact union and ask about it

  3. Always join a union. It does not really matter which as long as they accept you as a member.

Unemployment funds without union are capitalist schemes. Stay away.

  4. I would firstly look for the union you might want to join and check for the fund that they work with. Then you could decide if you want to join the union or just the fund. That might make it easier later on if you decide to join your union.

  5. Where do you work? If you have a workplace steward you can ask them about joining a union and fund
