The Trump administration sued Minnesota on Monday, accusing the state of attempting to regulate greenhouse gases through state litigation against oil and gas companies.

Minnesota’s yearslong climate deception lawsuit against Exxon Mobil Corp. and Koch Industries Inc., among other energy producers and trade association defendants, is an “attempt to regulate global greenhouse gas emissions,” according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota. The state’s effort also unconstitutionally usurps federal authority over national energy companies, the US Department of Justice said in a statement.
