A Tale of Two Britains: With the pomp and ceremony of the Jubilee, the ruling class reminded us all that they love Britain – but have no problem with its children going hungry.

  1. To be quite honest I’m sure the royals do a lot for charity. It more says a lot about the Tories in power who do fuck all to aid the problem

  2. Wasn’t Richard II on the unpopular end of the Peasant’s Revolt circa 1381? Seems starvation was far more widespread and notorious then. During those days the King dined sumptuously on peacock 🦚 and goose, spices and mead whilst the masses eked out lives on scarce bread and foul, murky river and well waters.

Odd thing, though. Ironically RIchard II died of starvation in the Tower of London as prisoner of incoming Lancaster dynasty icon Henry IV, 1400.

Incidentally Richard II and all his forbears, being Normans (through Stephen who died in 1154), and Plantagenets (through Richard who died in 1400) spoke only French -it wasnae until Henry IV after 1400 that any monarchs spoke English.

The English then was that of Chaucer, a stilted mix of old French and devolving Germanic Saxon words seasoned with a dose of high Latin. Few in today’s London would be able to comprehend any of it; some northeasterners near Newcastle could still catch a few stray words, as the beloved Geordie dialect clings to a few remnants of the sounds of Chaucer’s day.

  3. Not only do they not care about children going hungry, but they also don’t care about these hungry children becoming obese. National scandal.

“14.4% of reception age children (age 4-5) are obese, with a further 13.3% overweight. At age 10-11 (year 6), 25.5% are obese and 15.4% overweight. This data is from 2020/21 and is gathered as part of the National Child Measurement Programme”

  4. It does require some cognitive gymnastics to support a monarchy bathed in wealth and privilege whilst record numbers of children fall into poverty. If the Queen wasn’t so bloody humble, above politics and committed to her role this could be mistaken for over indulgence. Future celebrations will not be so popular, who the fuck will care about Charles III.

  5. Lots to take issue with really but the most hypocritical thing I thought in direct relation to the Royal family was them talking about climate change and the need to save the planet. What’s the carbon foot print of the Royal family again? Could you get a worse example of what we should not be doing to save the planet than the existence of a Royal family? Prince William alone has a carbon footprint that would dwarf several thousand of us peasants and has the nerve to talk to us about the need to combat climate change. That part made my blood boil.

  6. This is a problem that has been growing for a number of years, but now we have massive inflation it is going to get a lot worse very quickly.

Hopefully Boris will be gone soon, but I am not sure who is going to be any better?

  7. If a child goes hungry in the UK then the only people to blame are the parents. Food is very cheap in relation to salaries, even on minimum wage. There are benefits in place to help it.

I spend some £3-£5 a day on food as an adult male, 70+kg weight and exercising every day. I could cut it down, no problem. That’s around £100 a month for food.

All of this “children are starving because of government” is nothing but political propaganda. This is UK, even the homeless aren’t hungry.

Food prices have nothing to do with government, either, they are effects of internationally raising oil prices. And the oil prices are mostly the result of climate change scaremongering, of which Labour and Liberals are prominent players.

  8. The reason such a big deal was made about the Jubilee was purely for political power. The Monarchy is one of the few things that is “British” as opposed to Scottish, English, Welsh or (Northern) Irish and thus it is important for the state to maintain it to keep power rather than have independence movements grow even more popular than they already are.

  9. The BRF have injected millions into the British economy… they are beloved worldwide and should be a source of pride for every Briton.

  10. Not a fan of the Royals, but I don’t think the abominable state of the UK currently is their fault. If you want to blame somebody it is the voters, the people of the UK who have repeatedly voted this shower in.

  11. The Royals are not making up laws and enforcing them on us, that’s the governments job.

Blaming the Royals for the actions of the government is just dumb.
